3.  Write a letter of introduction using business letter format. Explore the Letter Templates in Microsoft Word [Go to View, Task Pane, General Templates, Letters. You may also use a Letterhead Template from the link to Microsoft.com] 

In your letter tell me about yourself:

• Your experience with technology 

• Your course expectations. 

• Is there anything unusual about you that no one would suspect? 

• Insert a digital photo of yourself, if you have one

• Print out a copy of your letter to bring to class next week AND also save your Word document as your last name.intro_letter.doc 

• Use your university email account to send your word file as an attachment to an email to dhogan@csusm.edu

• Put Letter of Introduction in the Subject Line and "See attached" in the body of the email.

8. The Art of Researching the Web = DO this student activity.  Open the "Ship's Log" in Word to complete this activity (link in left margin).  Turn in a hard copy. If you are working toward teaching in elementary school, you may substitute the "Teen Tour" with "Kid Tour".

9.  Make beginning of the year newsletter to introduce yourself to your students and their parents.  Use a 2-3 column format with several kinds of graphics.  Incorporate the use of the lines, autoshapes and watermark as well.  Your assignment rubric - Minimum of 2 pages, no dead space, no tombstoning.  INCLUDE YOUR PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION AS ONE OF THE ARTICLES.

10.  In Word, write a short reflection of your experience in creating this newsletter, including what you learned and what you might do next time.  Include ideas for other uses for this type of document.

11.  Create a PowerPoint project that teaches something, made as a presentation tool or a student project.  Use the Content Standards for California  to match your project to a grade level.  

• The Minimum Technology Requirements are: 10 slides, 5 graphics, 2 transitions, 2 sounds.

• Print a copy of your presentation   (Several slides per page is best.) On the hard copy make brief notes on where you have put animations, transitions and sounds, in case I am not able to view your presentation to your group.  

• You will need a digital version of the presentation because you will be presenting this to a group of classmates next Tuesday.  Please save it (careful of the size) zip disk, thumb drive or link to a website. DO NOT EMAIL IT TO ME.  Limit the total length of your presentation to 2-5 minutes. I will not pick up a digital copy, but you will need it for your portfolio.

13.  Create an original and print on a single sheet, a Kidspiration OR an Inspiration Mind Map. See the California Standards Match for Kids / Inspiration (pdf) to find a topic and grade level for your project.    Be sure to include graphics, font that enhances the topic and excellent organization.  See rubric link here for guidelines.   Save it as an Inspiration or Kidspiration file as well as an html.

 (file>export as html.  Save it to your disk or your documents, somewhere that you can find it again.  It will make a file in html and a folder.  Make sure that you save both the html file and the folder for your portfolio.) 

Print it out to turn in and share with the class. To see if it all fits on one page, go to print preview.

14.  Write a reflection on how what you learned in doing  assignment #12 using Inspiration Software, and how you may use this software to promote student learning.

15.  You can work alone or with a partner to create an excel spreadsheet described below:

Your classroom is having a competition between 3 groups of children to see which group can read the greatest number of pages from January - June.  Use formulas or equations (do not add up items in your head).  You can make up the data to create the following spreadsheet:

• Enter data for each group for each month

• Show the total number of pages read by each group, each month

• Show the total pages read for each group at the end of the contest

• Show the total number of pages read by the class at the end of the contest.

• Make a pie chart to show which group had the most pages read, and a line graph to show the monthly progress of each group.

Set the print area preview, and then print it to turn in.  Save a digital copy for your portfolio too.

16.  Using the sites below, research these uses for spreadsheets for teachers.  Chose 3 that you are most interested in, summarize the use (or student assignment) and then reflect upon which you would be most anxious to use and why.  This paper should be double spaced, new times Roman or Ariel font for text, and a length of no more than 2 pages.
